Questions about english levels
How do I know what CEFR level I'm at?
Without a formal placement test, a rough self-check works well: try reading a short news article or holding a simple conversation. If basic daily phrases are still a struggle, you're likely A1–A2. If you can discuss familiar topics with some errors, you're likely B1–B2. If you can handle nuance, abstract topics, and fast native speech comfortably, you're likely C1–C2.
Do all English exams use CEFR levels?
Not directly. IELTS uses its own 0–9 band scale, and TOEFL uses a 0–120 point scale, but both publish official conversion tables that map their scores onto approximate CEFR levels, since CEFR has become a common reference point internationally.
How long does it take to move up one CEFR level?
This varies enormously by starting level, study intensity, and immersion — but as a very rough guide, many learners need somewhere between 150–250 hours of focused study and practice to move up one full CEFR level, with higher levels typically taking longer.
